EBFan's World, Volume 2
This is the first article that I’ve written in a long while. I believe the last one I wrote was last March. Well, I am now making my triumphant return to article writing with this brand new article. I plan to start writing articles pretty regularly from now on, maybe even more so than before. I have been meaning to write this for a while, but I have been putting it off. However, I know I can’t put it off forever, seeing as articles are kind of my claim to fame here, so here’s the article.
In case you didn’t know, EBFan’s World is basically a series I came up with as a way to convey my views about what is going on in the community. This article is basically my view about what has been going on around here since the summer. I will start this account starting sometime in mid-July, this year.
It was around this time when this site fell into what was, in my opinion, the worst rut it ever fell in. The site was already going through some tough times, but it worst was yet to come. You see, at this time, Starmen.net was having, from what I interpreted from the situation, some problems with space. The site took up more than their allotted space, and they needed to do something fast. Their decision was one of the worst mistakes ever in the history of the EB Community. What the staffers decided to do was to split Starmen.net into two sites, Starmen.net and Moonside.net, and have them connected in one big Earthbound Empire. The problem was that this whole connection never happened. If I recall correctly, there wasn’t even a single link to SM.net from MS.net. The two sites drifted farther and farther apart and MS.net, which was given all of the community stuff, had many more updates than SM.net. This was obviously a problem, and reidman and the rest of the staff knew it. Eventually, this led to the collapse of Moonside.net. The problem was, however, that they never put the community stuff (except the forums) back on SM.net, so what was left was half a site and a huge rut that almost ended the site for good.
What was done next is the best decision that the staff ever made. What was decided was there would be a complete redoing of Starmen.net. Not just a layout change, a complete reorganizing. The result was a magnificent looking site where the games, not the community, were made the main focus. The rut, however, was not completely over. There were few updates on this new SM.net, and regulars were leaving like flies. I myself actually considered leaving, but I decided against it. Then all of a sudden, the site started up again. I don’t know what the staffers did, but whatever it was caused a revival in the update frequency that once was. I was stunned. The site went through, what I called, "the Starmen.net Renaissance." Ever since then the site has run great.
I can’t believe that the site rebounded from that. I commend the staffers for whatever they have done to make this site like it is now. They pulled the site out of its worst rut and made it the best it has ever been. They have even redone the site again to make it look even better. I would like to say thanks to reidman, Tomato, and the rest of the staff for making my favorite site better for all of its users. Until next time, this is EBFan2000 signing off.
