A Century of Blood |
Some folks have asked me why the people of Spookane will not look at the Rosemary Mansion during a nighttime windstorm. We found this in some dusty archives, and it recounts the Shroudley. "The most notorious mass murderer of our times was a Rosemary. His immaculate white robes were stained crimson as he delighted in the bloodletting of countless people. After taking countless lives, he was finally lynched in his house on the hill. But his profane soul was condemned to the vile dwelling in his hereafter, never free to roam. Unless, that is, he could lock eyes with another and single them out. This allowed him to manifest in their quarters for that night only. His tortured wailing in the wind would cause the people of the town never to look at the roof of that mansion in the night for over one hundred years. And though he comes infrequently and the tradition holds fast... there is always new blood on his hands."

Stone of Original Sin |
Students have approached me and asked why Gargoyles and Rockgoyles are so different. This scroll illustrates a local legend. Both Rockgoyle and Gargoyle were hewn from the Stone of Origin. But the Rockgoyle chose to stay near the Stone taking its power inwards, while the Gargoyle chose to journey from the stone, bringing its power outwards. As such, the Rockgoyle became like stone - cold, stoic, sedentary, and steadfast in its abilities. The Gargoyle became like magma - burning with terrible power, aggressive, and able to bring the influence of the Stone of Origin new places. One cannot exist without the other. Both cut from the same earth.

Family Unit |
The Muttshroom give the impression of a solid family structure. But it begs the question if these Muttshroom are individuals or just a familiar conceit of one organism? No mycelia stretch between the dogs so it would appear that this is a family and pet enjoying the independence of the wild. They have not fallen victim to the overwhelming sedentary drive of their fungus halves. They will revel in each other, the hunt, and the fresh air... not just the soil.

Propagation |
There are many fungal monsters, but few are as vile as the Zombieshroom. Its vast, undead network strangles its small island home. Whenever someone washes up on shore, it must slake its thirst for violence and need to propagate. The hapless victim is beaten, then slowly and painfully engulfed and changed by fungal growth. Finally, the brain is eaten by the Zombieshroom, and replaced with a new Zombieshroom core. The new zombie will either try to set out to flex its sickly influence elsewhere, or become yet another piece of the organism that just killed it.

Death Throes in the Depths |
An interesting scroll depicts creatures we long thought extinct or mere myth. In the depths there are two mortal enemies in the Carbon Dogs and Chomposaurs. Though they are bitter foes, the dogs tend to avoid conflict. But the cruel Chomopsaurs will massacre young dogs whenever possible. The alpha of the pack assumes the strange power of the Diamond Dog in its rage and sorrow, and a mortal battle begins. A rolling maelstrom of tooth and claw... fire and earth. Titans locked in mortal combat. The diamond teeth sink into the great serpents neck as stamina gives way and its body slowly and painfully turns to mineral. It thrashes for all its worth in a final attempt to make sure the fight would have no survivors.
