Pokey, the Root of All Evil - by NorthofOnett

Pokey, the Root of All Evil

We all know that Giygas is the universal cosmic destroyer, set on wiping out the human race as we know it. It's up to four kids to stop his monstrous plan from overtaking the prophecy of the Apple of Enlightenment, and restore peace to the world. And of course, they succeed.

However...
Who exactly was trying to destroy the world here? Was it really Giygas, in his current state of mind, when he couldn't even have been aware of his own existence? Before he was defeated, he had no physical body, no mind, and no thoughts. How do you suppose he lead and controlled his army to invade Earth? How could his plans have been carried out? There must have been someone pulling his strings in controlling not only him, but the evil plan to destroy the world.

I propose that it was Pokey (Porky) all along.

First, lets look back to the time when Giygas was an infant. We know that Mary raised him as if one of her own, and she showed him love and affection. After George stole the secrets of PSI, Giygas had begun his downward spiral to chaos. He invaded Earth, but why? To rid the world of their knowledge of PSI? Somewhere between George making off with the knowledge of PSI and Giygas' first invasion, someone must have provoked him into attacking Earth. Someone who always piggybacks (pun sort of intended, heh) off of his pawns until they no longer can serve them a purpose. I believe that Giygas was the first and largest "pawn" in Pokey's monstrous plan. And to give Giygas the satisfaction of revenge, Pokey must have played it off by telling Giygas to destroy Earth, so his own plan would be a success in the process.

After Giygas failed to stop Ninten and company from, uh, stopping his plans, Pokey then had to go to extreme measures. He already knew that Giygas was a very powerful being; much more powerful than he could ever be. While we're unsure how Giygas devolved into his current form (current, that is, until he was defeated yet again), something tells me that Pokey had more than little to do with it. I tend to think that Pokey horribly tortured Giygas as punishment for being defeated by a simple song.

Now you may be asking, _how could Pokey be controlling Giygas? Even if he somehow was this puppeteer behind it all, he couldn't have been alive during Giygas' first invasion._ But keep in mind, Pokey had a Phase Distorter, and very well could have been from the past first before the events of the first invasion. Of course, Dr. Andonuts built the phase distorter with the Mr. Saturns, but who's to say that they didn't just lie to Ness? When in actuality, Pokey could have given them a duplicate Phase Distorter, knowing that Ness would go back into the past, and hopefully fail against Giygas. (How's that for screwing with your mind?) We know from the events on Nowhere Islands that Pokey has travelled through time on more than one occasion. So the idea that Pokey came before all events of Giygas is not as far-fetched as you may think.

Now, during the first invasion, Pokey quietly stayed behind the scenes, thinking that his plan would just run its course with no interference. However, after Giygas failed to carry out those plans, Pokey decided it was time for him himself to cause a little havoc along the way. To make sure that his plan would be progressing as planned, Pokey took the form of a young 12 year-old kid who would always be major pain in the butt for the hero, Ness. Pokey wasn't sure who the "hero" would be, said by the Apple of Enlightenment, but after a meteorite land, and he witnessed an alien from the future tell Ness that he was the hero written of in the prophecy, Pokey knew it was only fate that it would be his next-door neighbor he'd have to stop. Now, how he managed to control Giygas, the invasion, AND run direct interference on the ground against Ness is beyond me. But while the overall plan and invasion was constantly working to stop Ness from succeeding, Pokey being in the way just added to his difficulties. And that's exactly what Pokey wanted.

Seeing all this being explained comes together with the fact the Pokey is right there beside Giygas in the final battle. Again, Pokey isn't that strong in combat, so he relied heavily on Giygas and the Devil's Machine. But you could see that Pokey was getting desperate when he turned off the Devil's Machine, and unleashed the raw power of Giygas in his incomprehensible form. And again, we know that Giygas was ultimately defeated; this time, for good. What's interesting is that after Ness defeated Giygas, everything returns to normal. All the people, animals, and other various things have gone back to their original form, as they were under his influence. The only exception to this is, in fact, Pokey. He stayed the exact same way that he was before, and escaped to another dimension to start on his new plan. And as we know, this would lead into the events on Nowhere Islands.

Whether this place was in another dimension, possibly the remnants of Earth had Pokey's plan to destroy it actually succeeded, or another place entirely, we'll never know. But we do know that Pokey has since given up on using Giygas to accomplish his plans. And this time, he goes for a slightly more direct approach. I won't go into much detail regarding these last events since we all know how Pokey ends up, and what role he played in the final part, but I wanted to make sure to tie in the events of the end of Giygas' invasion to the beginning of the Pork Army.

I hope that this theory may have shed some new light on that evil little monster. Whether you call him Pokey or Porky, one thing is for sure: there is more to him than you may have previously thought.
