Things to Submit to make you Stand Out
A lot of people submitt at starmen.net to win contests or at least to have something up that looks cool. I myself am the same way. Well, here's a list of ways to get yourself recoginzed with your submissions.
1. Make a game-This is the most obvious. There are only so many fangames, even counting the ones submitted at funfests.(send it in to the fan games area) But remember, try and do a good job making your game or people won't like it that much and become your enemy. I'm not joking (brother reading article:yes you are!). AHEM, anyways, if you do not know how to make games or do not have the proper equpiment, I suggest paying a visit to http://www.stagecast.com It is very simplistic and very handy software.
2. Make a fake ad or coupon-This probably looks a little weird, but hey, it could work! A fun ad or coupon for an in-game item would be cool. Just send it in to funstuff, I'm SURE everdread WOULDN"T MIND making a new section for your stuff ;) (Sorry Everdread, but it IS your job! ;) ). If you want, go the extra mile and make the item out of clay or something and take a picture. That would qualify as fanart in my book (really good fanart!)
3. Make a non-digital game-Make a board game by making a sheet of paper that will serve as the board and another that has pictures of the pieces. Then, scan the images on your computer and send it in (to funstuff, of course) with a notepad document containing the rukes. Now THAT would be cool! AND, there's another option for this categorey: RPG!! Go ahead and get to notepad and write down a little adventure. Then, make a choice of characters for the players and options and battles during the adventure. Suddenly, WHAMM-O!, you have an RPG!
4. Include spongebob in your submissions-This kind of speaks for itself. Why include spongebob in your submission? Simple. EVERYONE loves spongebob! Besides, think about it this way: Ness is walking to the Mach Pizza restraunt in Twoson when he realizes that it's replaced by the Krusty Krab! That could make a good start for a fanfic or fangame, really.
5. Mini Worlds-This is a somewhat difficult one (compared to these others). You could make a clay model of an earth bound scene (I saw that somewhere in the fanart section), a mini-earth bound scene made with flash (i hope you know what that is) or stagecast (see #1) with clickable objects and characters or an earthbound related scenario made for anyone of these games (or others that you can think of): Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, Age of Empires, Age of kings, Age of Mythology or Starcraft.
